A tutor's most important job is to observe how the student works and learns, and then provide the student with strategies to work and learn more effectively. I like to reach underachieving students as early as possible and teach them effective and lifelong learning strategies and problem solving skills. This will begin a cycle of confidence, motivation, and academic success that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. My experience has been that sustained weekly hands-on tutoring can help a student through a rough year in a specific subject, or get him or her back on grade level if s/he is lagging behind. The student is expected to: Bring the course textbook and syllabus to each tutoring session Bring homework assignments, tests, and quizzes to the tutor for review Attend class (not just tutoring sessions!) You can expect me to: Present academic content in ways that stimulate understanding and mastery Demonstrate ways to approach materials and concepts Encourage effective study habits Answer your questions. If I don’t have the answer today, I will look it up! My goal is to enable successful, independent learners. |
